Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of TakeStock, a cost and record-keeping service for small farms, operated by TakeStock Software LLC (“we”). By creating an account you agree to them.

What the service is

TakeStock records what your animals cost to raise and what they sold for, and works out the arithmetic in between. It optionally publishes a page listing animals you have marked ready to sell, and collects inquiries from buyers who find it.

Your account

• You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity under your account.
• One account represents one farm. You may invite other people to your farm; the owner controls who has access.
• You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.

Your records belong to you

You keep ownership of everything you enter. We store and process it to run the service for you, and we do not sell it or use it to advertise to you. You can export your whole dataset as JSON from the account page at any time, including after a subscription lapses.

Trial, subscription and billing

• New farms start on a free trial. No card is required to begin.
• After the trial, continued editing requires an active subscription.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Your card details are handled entirely by Stripe under their terms.
• You can cancel at any time from the account page. Cancelling stops future charges.
• If a subscription lapses or is cancelled, your records are not deleted. The account becomes read-only: you can still read and export everything. Editing resumes when a subscription is active again.

Your public storefront

The storefront is off until you turn it on. While it is on, the page at your chosen address shows only the animals you have marked ready to sell, and only the fields intended for buyers — species, breed, sex, weight, asking price, description and one photo. Your costs, notes, buyer list and financials are never shown there. Turning the storefront off makes the page return “not found” again.

You are responsible for what you publish there and for the accuracy of your listings and prices. Any sale is between you and your buyer; we are not a party to it, do not process those payments, and do not guarantee that a sale completes.

Not professional advice

The Schedule F summary is a bookkeeping aid organised along familiar expense lines. It is not tax advice and not a substitute for a tax preparer. Nothing in the service is financial, legal or veterinary advice. Figures are only as good as the records you enter, and you are responsible for checking them before relying on them — for a tax return, a sale, or anything else.

Acceptable use

• Do not use the service to break the law or to publish anything you do not have the right to publish.
• Do not attempt to access another farm's data, probe the service for vulnerabilities without asking us first, or disrupt it for other users.
• Do not use the inquiry form or storefront to send bulk unsolicited messages.
• We may suspend an account that is causing harm to the service or to other users.

If you believe you have found a security problem, please email contact@takestock.farm rather than publishing it. We will work with you in good faith.

Availability

We aim to keep the service running and your data safe, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose — the export exists for exactly that.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, TakeStock Software LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost sales or lost data. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Ending the agreement

You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your account and its records by emailing contact@takestock.farm. We may end or suspend an account that breaks these terms. If we end your account without cause, we will give you a reasonable chance to export your data first.

Governing law

TakeStock Software LLC is a Kansas limited liability company. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Kansas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of these terms or your use of the service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Kansas, and both you and we consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we will update the date at the top of this page and let account holders know by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
